A beautiful 16th-century heraldic signet ring featuring a French coat of arms. The engraved shield displays a stylized chalice, vase, or fruit—symbols in heraldry often associated with abundance, faith, or fertility. Above the shield are the Lombardic script initials “D V D B.” These initials could refer to a French noble or bourgeois family, possibly “de la Ville de B…” or “de Vendôme de B…”.
This is a large and heavy ring, likely worn over a glove; as was the fashion. Such a ring would have been a costly and important jewel owned by a wealthy Merchant as a means of authenticating transactions and letters.
