An ancient Post Medieval Silver Clasped Hands and Heart Ring
This 17th–18th century Claddagh ring is crafted in silver and features the traditional motif of two hands clasping a heart — an enduring symbol of love, loyalty, and friendship. The heart-shaped central element is flanked by stylised cuffs and finely engraved details, characteristic of early Irish folk jewellery from this period.
The ring has a slender circular band and a distinctly handcrafted appearance, with visible signs of age and workmanship that enhance its historical character. Pierced openwork details beside the heart add refinement and depth to the design.
Originating in Ireland during the 17th century, Claddagh rings were traditionally exchanged as tokens of affection and devotion. This example reflects the restrained yet expressive aesthetic of late 17th- to 18th-century jewellery and represents a remarkable collector’s piece with both cultural and symbolic significance.
