An ancient Roman solid gold Hercules Club pendant with Garnet inlay
Ancient Roman gold Hercules hollow club pendant, adorned with filigree and granulation along its length, including nine Garnet stones, with a suspension loop above and large Garnet stone on the bottom.
Such a pendant testifies to the great refinement and attention to detail of Roman goldsmiths. Together with the lion skin, the club was the main attribute of Hercules, the Greco-Roman hero, and became a popular motif in Roman jewellery from the 2nd century AD.
